U.S. Department of Homeland Security Introduces TPS for Haitian Nationals as a result of the devastating earthquake
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has announced the designation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals who were in the U.S. as of January 12, 2010. The TPS designation will allow eligible Haitian nationals in the U.S. to continue living and working in the U.S. for the next 18 months (extensions may be announced at a future date).
We are available to discuss options for you and/or your family and friends. If you should decide to retain our firm for the processing of your TPS application or another immigration matter, we will offer you a significantly reduced fee.
Frequently asked questions about TPS for Haitians
The following is a list of FAQ on TPS that we think will be helpful
May I apply for another immigration benefit while registered for TPS? Yes. Registration for TPS does not prevent you from applying for nonimmigrant status, filing for a green card, or applying for any other immigration benefit or protection for which you may be eligible.
How will filing for TPS affect my application for asylum? A TPS application will have no impact on your application for asylum.
Assuming I meet all other requirements, what else could make me ineligible for TPS? A person who has been convicted of any felony, or two or more misdemeanors committed in the U.S. is not eligible for TPS. A person subject to several other criminal and security related bars to asylum is also ineligible.
